About Us

Coach Harold Thompson is a former high school basketball All-American and a National Champion in college basketball at North Carolina State University. In 1983, North Carolina State University clinched the National Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico, defeating the University of Houston with a last-second dunk that resonated worldwide. After his playing career at N.C. State, Coach Thompson transitioned to coaching basketball at the high school level.

Coach Thompson has always recognized his calling to coach and educate. At the age of 17, he became concerned about the high divorce rates in his community, only to later find that the national divorce rate was similarly high. This early awareness led him to study the challenges of divorce and how married couples could navigate them. It was during his time coaching high school basketball that he realized the parallels between marriage and basketball, as well as other life pursuits, all requiring the same essential elements for success. Both basketball and marriage demand a specific skill set for one to achieve success.

Without the necessary skills, one cannot anticipate success in either marriage or basketball. Coach Thompson quickly recognized the link between skill sets and success. He argues that no one would expect to excel in any sport without developing the requisite skills, yet in marriage, this fact is often overlooked. The skill set we possess in any endeavor significantly influences our success, and the same holds true for marriage. Without a solid marital skill set, how can one aspire to excel in a marriage? Coach Thompson asserts that it is not merely love, commitment, or dedication within a marriage that fosters its growth.

The success of a marriage, much like in sports, is entirely reliant on the skill set of the individuals involved. We are thoroughly convinced that many people believe love alone will sustain a marriage, yet numerous couples who divorce often admit they still love their partner.
